  • Underrepresented Minorities in Interventional Cardiology

    There is a lot of discussion about disparities in healthcare affecting Black and Hispanic patients. Among the many causes of disparity is the lack of cardiologists, and especially interventional cardiologists, from these minority groups. We recently had a symposium at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation meeting in Washington addressing this issue and others relating to disparity. I was asked to speculate on why we do not have more Black and Hispanic colleagues in our training programs and, subsequently, in practice. After consulting with two of our former fellows who are experts, namely Dr. Paul Douglass and Dr. Quinn Capers, I decided to ask three questions:
