  • Resolutions and Predictions for 2023

Traditionally at the end of the calendar year, we look back at the past year and summarize the highs and the lows, what could have been different or better, what the misses were, and what opportunities we should take as the new year starts. As soon as that happens, we are bombarded with a myriad of predictions from astrologists and forecasters who try to predict what will happen in the upcoming year. The desire to predict the future is ancient, going all the way back to biblical times, as Middle East archaeology has confirmed that astrology did indeed originate in the nation of Babylon, now called Iraq. But scientists always had a problem with astrology pseudoscience, as Albert Einstein said, “I never think of the future – it comes soon enough,” or William Shakespeare wrote, “It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.” Finally, more recently, it was Steve Jobs who said, “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backward. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something – your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.”
