  • Polymer-Free vs. Polymer-Coated Drug-Eluting Stents for the Treatment of Coronary Artery Disease: A Meta-Analysis of 16 Randomized Trials

    Highlights

    • Polymer coating has been addressed for the failure of the first generation of drug luting stents (DES).
    • Polymer-free DES (PF-DES) have offered promising angiographical results, although not supported by outcome data.
    • We performed an-updated meta-analysis of 14 randomized trials comparing PF-DES with Polymer Coated (PC-DES).
    • We demonstrated that PF-DES lowered overall mortality as compared to conventional DES.
    • However, this reduction was not dependent from the prevention of major recurrent ischemic events.
