Editorial: Incidence, disparities and outcome of acute coronary syndromes: Implications for health care systems
Vascular diseases remain the number one cause of mortality world-wide [ ]. While there is growing interest in structural heart disease and there have been multiple trials of therapy for stable ischemic heart disease, it is necessary to remember that acute coronary syndromes (ACS) including ST segment elevation and non-ST segment elevation MI are both common and the leading causes of cardiovascular mortality [ ]. Health care disparities are also likely to have greater societal impact for common, serious diseases [ ]. Continuing study evaluating incidence over time and in different social groups is crucial in understanding and managing this critical health care problem.
