Editorial: Coronary Atherectomy in Patients with Aortic Stenosis Appears Safe, but Is PCI Necessary Prior to Transcatheter Valve Replacement?
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is present in more than 60 % of patients referred for surgical (SAVR) or transcatheter (TAVR) aortic valve replacement . Traditionally, patients with significant CAD undergoing SAVR also underwent concomitant bypass surgery (CABG) based on non-randomized data suggesting poorer outcomes with SAVR if CAD was not revascularized and improved survival without increased operative risk if CABG was performed at the time of SAVR .
