1 Introduction Physicians participate in a variety of activities for professional development. Most percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) operators in the United States report data to regional or national quality improvement programs that track process measures and patient outcomes. In addition, operators may receive feedback on their care from a variety of local mechanisms, including case conferences, risk management activities, and internal hospital dashboards. Maintenance of Certification programs mandate continuing medical education and knowledge testing. Recently, major cardiovascular clinical societies have proposed to form a new American Board of Cardiovascular Medicine for the certification of cardiologists, including interventional cardiologists. This provides an opportunity to create a new system to support the professional development of PCI operators, ideally one that is more aligned with physician preferences for education and feedback.
