Recently, a multi-society peripheral arterial disease (PAD), the Pulse Alliance Initiative, has emphasized the importance of PAD, in particular, the significant lack of awareness by clinicians, its under-diagnosis and under-treatment, with significant consequences to patients as well as the very elevated cost to the healthcare system. [ ] PAD is considered a disease process that predominantly affects older adults. This is why current guidelines recommend screening all patients over the age of 70, those between 50 and 60 years old with history of tobacco abuse or diabetes mellitus, and those 40 to 49 years old with diabetes and another risk factor for atherosclerosis. [ ] Information regarding the prevalence of this disease in young adults is less known.
