  • Association of acute stroke with COVID-19 at a large healthcare system before and during pandemic

Acute stroke can occur in association with infection from the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the virus that causes coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) [  ]. Early data showed that emergency department visits and hospitalizations for acute stroke declined at the beginning of the pandemic, especially after the declaration of a national emergency in March 2020 in the United States [  ,  ]. Vaccines were developed to prevent SARS-CoV-2 infection, an important step to halt the spread of the global pandemic. In addition to its association with the infection, acute stroke has been reported after COVID-19 vaccination as a rare complication [  ].
