    Abstract

    Despite successful primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for treatment of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI), myocardial salvage is frequently suboptimal resulting in large infarctions with increased rates of heart failure and death. Microvascular dysfunction after the procedure is frequently present and contributes directly to poor outcomes in STEMI.
