Fellows-in-training always want to know what we think the future will bring for them. We speculate about things far removed, but as I think about it, the future is happening all the time. At the Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT) meeting that just concluded, I was asked by two colleagues and former students from Egypt what Andreas Gruentzig would consider interesting from this conference. I told them that if he was unaware of all that had happened over the past 38 years, he would either be surprised, or not, by what has evolved from his method. I don't know which, but I, as well as some of you, have been on this earth for these 38 years and still we see unmet clinical needs. Some of these that interested me at the conference are works in progress and represent approaches to the near future. Maybe Andreas would have found them interesting as well.
