Efficacy and Safety of Transcarotid Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: A Systematic Review
Highlights
- • Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is an approved therapy for most patients with aortic stenosis.
- • Transfemoral approach is the most common and preferred access during TAVR.
- • In patients with inadequate femoral access, alternative approaches have been pursued.
- • Transcarotid approach to TAVR is a safe and effective alternative access.
Abstract
Background
In patients who are not suitable for traditional access routes for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) due to severe peripheral vascular disease (PVD) or prohibitive surgical risk, carotid artery (CA) access is an emerging route for TAVR. This study represents the most up to date on outcomes of carotid access TAVR.
