  • Editorial: The use of Fascia iliaca Block with Minimal Conscious Sedation in Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement: Advances in TAVR Anesthesia

The use of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) to treat symptomatic severe aortic stenosis has revolutionized the treatment of this disease. Valve replacement in this population has significantly decreased the mortality. While initially reserved for patients at prohibitively high surgical risk, TAVR has now been proven safe and effective for patients at all levels of surgical risk. There is emerging evidence that asymptomatic patients may benefit from valve replacement. Advancement in procedural technique and valve technology has expanded concomitantly to the growing population in which TAVR is indicated. This ultimately has benefitted patients with trends toward better outcomes over time.
