Definitive treatment of aortic stenosis (AS) includes surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) or transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) [ ]. Balloon aortic valvuloplasty (BAV) has been performed since 1986 [ ] and is currently indicated in patients with hemodynamic instability as a bridge to definitive therapy with TAVR or SAVR (Class IIb Level of evidence C) [ ]. It is also considered as a stand-alone palliative therapy in patients with no suitable TAVR or SAVR treatment options, based either on comorbidities, frailty or a limited life expectancy.
