    When the first stent technology entered the clinical arena, few cardiologists would have bet a single penny on a solution that led to an unacceptable incidence of stent thrombosis and a disturbing rate of restenosis. Stent deployment became a breakthrough technology thanks to the pioneering work of interventional cardiologists [1,2] who studied procedural and therapeutic novel solutions to scaffold the coronary arteries.
