There is no doubt that the COVID-19 pandemic caught the United States (US) at the height of polarization and a partisan atmosphere amplified by the media and politicians from both sides of the aisle. At the time of the COVID-19 pandemic breakout in China, the US was occupied with presidential impeachment, primaries, debates, and other preparation for a presidential election year. These partisan activities may have impeded the nation's readiness and preparedness for early diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of the virus. It also turned the situation into a political battle, with most decisions judged under the microscope of politicians rather than scientists.
