  • Editorial: Coronary Healing Patterns Following Stenting in Patients With Diabetes as Assessed by Optical Coherence Tomography

We have come a long way in the treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD) with drug-eluting stents (DES); however, diabetes mellitus (DM) continues to be associated with adverse outcomes and higher rates of restenosis. Therefore, the revascularization guidelines recommend that diabetic patients with advanced CAD should be treated with coronary artery bypass grafting [  ]. Having said this, there is always a single-vessel disease diabetic patient who requires revascularization, and this brings up the discussion of the choice of DES. Based on recent stent studies that have shown similar results in diabetic patients treated with newer DES (i.e., thin-strut bioresorbable-polymer stents) as compared to everolimus-eluting stents, the latter still seems to be a valid alternative [  ,  ].
