    Increases in 25- to 44-year-olds and 3 Appalachian states tied to opioid crisis

    Infective endocarditis (IE) age-adjusted mortality rates have declined in the last 20 years, but mortality in 25- to 44-year-olds has increased over that time, especially in Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia, leading the investigators to speculate that the opioid crisis has contributed to these findings, a new analysis shows.
