  • Editorial: Will covered stents improve arterial side-branch injury repair?

Iliofemoral iatrogenic arterial injuries from endovascular procedures are not uncommon and treatment options continue to evolve. [  ]. Although surgical repair of vascular injuries has been standard [  ], patient comorbidities, infection risk, and healing complications can compromise outcomes making less invasive endovascular repair, such as the use of covered stents (CS) an alternative therapy [  ]. Side branch injury has posed unique considerations for repair including distal ischemia when using covered stents over the parent vessel [  ,  ]. Initially successful in treating coronary lesions with its high maneuverability and small crossing profile, new-generation single-layer, polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE)-CS may have potential in treating iatrogenic arterial side-branch injuries [  ]. Currently, there is paucity of knowledge of the use and outcomes PTFE-CS in this context of branch vessel injuries.
